On Monday morning, Sep. 16, the Indiana State Police made a significant drug bust during a routine commercial vehicle stop on I-94. At around 9:30 a.m., officers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division pulled over a semi-truck for a motor carrier violation at the eastbound weigh station, located two miles east of State Road 49.
During the stop, a State Police K9 unit was brought in to conduct a free-air sniff around the vehicle. The dog alerted officers to the presence of drugs. Upon searching the trailer, police discovered 123.9 kilograms of a white powdery substance, later confirmed through field tests to be cocaine.
The driver, 49-year-old Naseeb Chisty from Canada, was arrested without incident and taken to the Porter County Jail. He now faces serious charges, including Level 2 felony dealing cocaine and Level 3 felony possession of cocaine.
