Another transport truck blows the stop sign at Sistonen’s Corner

The same intersection was also the scene of a fatal collision on Sept. 11

THUNDER BAY —  Only one or two seconds separated two transport trucks and a third vehicle from a catastrophic collision at Sistonen’s Corner on Saturday.

The driver of a westbound tractor-trailer blew the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Highway 102, barely missing an eastbound transport truck and an eastbound commercial van.

Video of the incident was captured on the dash-cam of a vehicle parked at the Petro-Canada refuelling station, and posted on the Facebook page of Skilled Truckers Canada.

In the aftermath of the near-collision, the westbound tractor-trailer swerved through the parking lot and overturned.

Neither of the two occupants of the transport suffered serious injuries, according to OPP.

Three weeks earlier, on Sept. 11, two men died when their tractor trailer blew the same stop sign and collided with a pickup truck. Four occupants of the pickup, including two children, suffered serious injuries.

Unlike that incident, which occurred at night, the most recent mishap happened in the middle of the afternoon.

OPP are still investigating, but say charges are pending.

They are also continuing to investigate last month’s fatal collision.
