Thousands of Western Star and Freightliner trucks recalled for fire risk

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has issued a recall for nearly 3000 trucks due to the risk of a fuel leak sparking a fire.

The recall was issued in December 2021 and affects 2,843 Western Star and Freightliner vehicles.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall documents, in affected vehicles “the fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injector for cylinders 4, 5 and 6 may be susceptible to cracking, resulting in a high-pressure fuel leak … A high pressure fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of a fire.”

The following makes and models are affected by the recall:

  • 2019-2021 FCCC XCP Chassis vehicles
  • 2019-2022 Freightliner 114SD
  • 2020-2022 Western Star 4700
  • 2020 Western Star WJ121
  • 2021 Western Star WF110
  • 2021-2022 Western Star 49X
  • 2021-2022 Freightliner Cascadia P4
  • 2022 Western Star 47X

DTNA will notify owners of the recall on February 10, 2022.

Dealers will replace the fuel tubes and install vibration isolator for free as a remedy.
