Newfoundland trucker arrested, charged with impaired driving after breath samples allegedly register nearly three times the legal limit

RCMP found open alcohol inside the cab of the transport truck

WHITBOURNE, N.L. — A transport truck driver who police say had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit was arrested near Whitbourne for impaired driving on April 9.

RCMP said police received a report of a tractor-trailer weaving and speeding while driving on the Trans-Canada Highway around 7:30 p.m.

Police said officers found the vehicle near Whitbourne and stopped it after observing it swerving on the road.

The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. Officers also found and seized open alcohol from inside the truck.

The man was taken to the local police station and provided breath samples nearly three times the legal alcohol limit.

The 51-year-old man was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to answer impaired driving charges.

His licence was suspended, and the transport truck was seized and impounded.
