Not only on World Bicycle Day – Mercedes-Benz Trucks cares about the safety of cyclists

Leinfelden-Echterdingen – June 3rd is World Bicycle Day. A study by the research institute Ipsos from 2022 showed that there is a connection between the frequency of bicycle use and the feeling of safety: the more secure people feel on the bike, the more they cycle. Mercedes-Benz Trucks would like to make its contribution to more safety – not just perceived. The company has been offering the fully integrated Sideguard Assist S1R ex works for many models in the Actros, Arocs and Econic series since 2016. The battery-electric trucks eActros and eEconic have also had the assistant since they went into series production in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Sideguard Assist can help prevent accidents involving cyclists.
In June 2021, Mercedes-Benz Trucks was the first manufacturer to also launch Active Sideguard Assist (ASGA), a so-called active turning assistant. The innovative system can no longer only warn the driver of moving cyclists on the passenger side, but can also initiate automated braking until the vehicle comes to a standstill at a turning speed of up to 20 km/h.
