Weeklong commercial vehicle blitz coming to Arizona interstates next week

Multiple agencies will partner for a major commercial vehicle enforcement effort on Arizona interstates next week.

Starting on Monday, February 24, 2025, and lasting through Friday, February 28, 2025, Arizona law enforcement agencies will take part in the annual “Operation Southern Shield” commercial vehicle blitz.

During the weeklong effort, officers will focus on enforcement activities targeting commercial vehicles traveling on I- 10 from Phoenix to the New Mexico state line and on I-19 from Tucson to the international border.

More than 80 commercial vehicle inspectors will take part in enforcement activities, with special emphasis on motor carrier safety regulations, including driver qualification, hours of service, and overall safe operations.

Additionally, the Arizona Department of Public Safety says that “inspectors and enforcement officers will target hazardous moving violations, distracted driving, and seat belt violations while conducting commercial vehicle inspections to ensure commercial drivers and vehicles comply with commercial vehicle regulations and state laws.”

Participating agencies include the Arizona Commercial Vehicle Safety Partnership (ACVSP)the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, the Marana Police Department, and the Goodyear Police Department.
