Daimler Buses Neu-Ulm plant launches production of the next generation of Setra coaches: New ComfortClass and TopClass roll off the production line

Neu-Ulm – The Daimler Buses Neu-Ulm plant has launched series production of the new Setra ComfortClass and TopClass 500. The first ever next-generation ComfortClass has already rolled off the production line; the TopClass will follow shortly. The site thus underlines its role as a center of competence for coaches within the Daimler Buses production network, making a significant contribution to ensuring that the new coaches meeting the most stringent Setra quality standards can hit the road. The company has scheduled the official launch of the two top-of-the-range models for this summer. The vehicles come equipped with numerous technical and visual innovations.

Jochen Duppui, Director Production Daimler Buses Western Europe: “Every production launch of a new vehicle generation is always a challenge. However, you can rely on our team’s know-how here in Neu-Ulm: Staff know exactly how to produce premium coaches meeting the highest quality standards, and the production launch of these two Setra buses has once again impressively demonstrated this.”

Next generation – also in terms of production process

Daimler Buses piloted the so-called digital bus body in Neu-Ulm for the very first time with the production launch of the Setra ComfortClass and TopClass. All new components of the two buses were assembled digitally on the computer in the correct assembly sequence beforehand to analyze individual process steps. This enabled optimizations within the assembly process in advance, thus minimizing subsequent process adjustments, which contributed to the smooth product launch. In future, this methodology will be applied to all new series.
