Wörth am Rhein / Nuremberg – The basis for efficient work in landscape maintenance, road maintenance, agriculture or construction is a powerful fleet of vehicles. With the Unimog implement carrier, a wide range of tasks can be carried out professionally, efficiently and ergonomically. At GaLaBau, the leading European trade fair for gardening and landscaping, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks will be presenting three vehicle solutions in cooperation with Unimog Expert partners MULAG and BUCHER Municipal. The Unimogs with attachments can be found at the joint stand of the Unimog general agency Henne Nutzfahrzeuge (stand 6-329, hall 6). GaLaBau will take place from September 11 to 14 at the Exhibition Center Nuremberg.

Unimog U 430 with UNI-TOUCH® and GSR equipment

Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks will be exhibiting a Unimog implement carrier that meets the requirements of the EU legislation on vehicle safety (EU Regulation 2019/2144 General Safety Regulation II, GSR for short), which comes into force in July 2024, and can therefore provide more support for the driver and greater safety for road users. The new GSR includes Sideguard Assist, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, a reversing camera and a tire pressure loss warning system as standard.

In order to provide the occupants with the best possible protection under all circumstances, the cab has additional reinforcements on the cab floor and tubular brackets on the A-pillar. This means that the vehicle complies with the legally prescribed ECE-R29/3 standard for commercial vehicles.

In addition to the new safety assistance systems, visitors can get to know the new UNI-TOUCH® operating system, which is installed in the Unimog U 430. In future, almost all attachments available for the Unimog can be controlled via the new operating system, which replaces the vehicle’s own control panels and makes operation more ergonomic and intuitive. The center console has been extensively redesigned, has a slimmer design and can be moved lengthwise and crosswise. In addition, controls have been reduced to save space thanks to the option of individually assigning buttons and saving application profiles and recurring sequences. A 10.5 inch (26 cm) touchscreen allows the user to make the right settings for the job at hand. The screen can be rotated and tilted for a flexible viewing angle.

The optional multifunction lever has freely assignable controls and can be plugged into either the preparation on the driver’s seat or the passenger seat. The controls are always operated with the right hand and the arm is supported on the armrest. Thanks to the fixed connection to the armrest, the control lever moves automatically with the movements of the swivel seat, allowing the driver to work more ergonomically. Other elements of the new operating system are the start/stop button, which replaces the classic ignition key of the equipment carrier, and the new door control panels.

The Unimog U 430 on display is equipped with a mower-cutter combination at the front of the vehicle and a spreader. The MFK 500 front boom mower from MULAG has a reach of six meters (seven meters with telescope) and can be used on both sides. It can be driven either via the vehicle’s power hydraulics or via the front PTO shaft. The FSG 2000 clearance profile cutter from MULAG can be used for wood maintenance and for clearing roads and tracks. The attachment can be fitted to the standardized front mounting plate of the Unimog with little effort.

The Yeti W27 spreader from BUCHER Municipal is optimally designed for the FS-30 spreading method with a dry material volume of 2.7 m³ and a brine volume of 1,280 l. The double screw conveyor system enables a very low hopper design. On the one hand, the driver benefits from better all-round visibility and, on the other, the low centre of gravity contributes to safe driving characteristics.

Unimog U 535 with ECO mowers from Mulag for gentle green maintenance

The Unimog U 535 with 260 kW (354 hp) carries attachments from Unimog ExpertPartner Mulag at the trade fair. This makes it the versatile partner for demanding green maintenance in road services. The MKM 700 combination mower, which consists of a front boom and a verge mower, is used on the front mounting plate. Its purpose is to efficiently process the intensive area of roadside greenery, i.e. areas such as verges, swales, ditches, dividing strips and central reservations. The SB 600 rear boom is installed at the rear of the Unimog, which uses its suction device to dispose of the mowed material in a mowed material trailer. Different implement variants make the boom units suitable for numerous verge maintenance tasks in summer. The ECO 1200 plus green maintenance head plays a special role in insect protection: its special cutting unit has been scientifically proven to protect insects and plants better than many conventional cutting units.

Unimog U 327 with ECO winter service technology from Bucher Municipal

With the special Unimog U 327 model, a versatile specialist for winter maintenance and transportation will also be on the stand. It mobilizes 200 kW (272 hp) and is part of the medium-duty model series with a gross vehicle weight of up to 14.5 tonnes.  The Unimog U 327 thus offers the performance, weight classes and wheelbases of a U 427, combined with the compactness and maneuverability that make the Unimog U 319 series so popular. This model also offers a suitable platform for transportation and crane work. For special customer requirements, the Unimog U 327 is also available with a long wheelbase and large flatbed.

Unimog ExpertPartner Bucher Municipal has equipped the vehicle with its new Wingx LN2636t winged snow plow and a Yeti W27 with VarioMax and exchangeable spreader section.

The snow plough has variably adjustable side wings, making it suitable for clearing large areas. This snow plough is also equipped with a patented neoprene clearing bar, which enables surface-friendly and low-noise clearing with a very long service life. For clearing ice and packed snow, the Wingx has an optional double clearing bar system, which allows a steel bar to be added hydraulically while driving.

The Yeti W27 spreader with twin auger system and optional VarioMax system, as well as a removable spreading section, offers a dry material volume of 2.7 cubic meters and a brine volume of 1,280 liters. Thanks to the VarioMax hopper, the spreader can be converted from an FS30 to a pure brine spreader (FS100) within a very short time. This increases the brine volume from 1,280 liters to 3,130 liters. The brine is spread via the spreading plate up to a width of 8m. With the ECO pre-wetted salt technology from Bucher Municipal, economic efficiency can be increased by saving dry material and increasing the spreading time of the spread material.

The removable spreading section of the spreader can be replaced by a hose reel in summer to carry out watering or cleaning work. The side tanks and the VarioMax container serve as water dispensers for this purpose. The Unimog with attachments shown here is therefore a practical solution for year-round use.
