Canada border agency systems woes delay inbound shipments

Trucking industry group reports serious delays in processing goods entering country

Shipments of commercial goods into Canada are facing delays because of technical issues involving the systems of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

“Backup plans are activated and we are working to resolve the matter as quickly as possible,” the CBSA said on Thursday, adding that it will provide updates on Twitter

The agency did not immediately explain the cause, stating that it was having “IT issues.”

The Canadian Trucking Alliance, the largest national carrier organization, reported that the problem was leading to “a severe backlog and much slower processing times for cross-border shipments.”
