Division of Bham-based PS Logistics acquires Canadian cold-chain company

A subsidiary of a Birmingham-based transportation company has expanded into the cold-chain marketplace.

TA Services Inc., a Texas-based division of PS Logistics, has acquired Toronto, Canada-based Scout Logistics Corp., a worldwide specialist in over-the-road transportation of perishable freight.

This acquisition increases the company’s revenue to $500 million. The deal also adds 650 employees to its roster and over 20 global locations, from Monterrey, Mexico, to Toronto. For Scout, the deal means additional resources, updated systems and processes and access to capital.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Scott Schell, CEO and president of TA Services, said the transaction will have a lasting impact on the industry as a whole.

TA joined PS Logistics, one of Birmingham’s largest privately held companies, in 2014.

This marks yet another transaction for PS Logistics, which acquired Indiana-based Jason Jones Trucking Inc., Camden-based WilMar Trucking LLC and WilMar Logistics LLC and Texas-based Patriot Transit and Patriot Logistics – all in the past year. The company acquired certain assets of Celadon Logistics from Celadon Group Inc. in 2019 through TA Services.
